Cairo Witnesses First Snowfall In Over 100 Years

The Egyptian capital has witnessed its first snowfall in 112 years amid one of the worst winter storms to hit the Middle East in decades. 

Cairo residents woke to scenes that no local would ever have witnessed in their lifetime, with the steady downpour blanketing the city's busy streets with white snow. 

The precipitation also transformed the nation's most iconic landmarks including the pyramids and Sphinx. 

Children and adults alike took the rare opportunity to make snowmen and throw snowballs in their usually sweltering city. 
The snow also reached Syria and the Israeli capital Jerusalem, where up to 50cm of snow caused traffic chaos.
