2 Feared Dead In Rivers Tanker Explosion

Two persons were reportedly burnt to death and scores sustained first degree burns when a  tanker laden with diesel went up in flames in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The incident was said to have occurred at about 8:30 pm, on Tuesday around St. John’s Bus Stop, along Iwofe-Rumuolumeni Road in the state capital.
It was gathered that the tanker upturned due to the deplorable state of the road and went up in flames.
Some buildings around the place were torched by the fire, which was later controlled by men of the State Fire Service.
An eyewitness told Daily Sun that prompt arrival of the fire fighters salvaged the situation, adding that the accident would have recorded more casualties.

One of the youths, identified as Owhonda, said government and companies operating in the area had taken them for granted and abused their peaceful disposition.“You know that this Iwofe-Rumuolumeni Road and other roads in the community were blocked for weeks by the youths because of their deplorable nature. Now, see what has happened. For how long will this problem continue? They have taken us for granted for too long.”
He appealed to relevant authorities to come to their aid, saying the road had become a death trap and  had brought hardship to the residents and other road users.
