Asthma may have negative effect on fertility

Research shows that Women with asthma could have more difficulty conceieveing , resulting in prolonged time to pregnancy, published in European Respiratory Journal suggesting that asthma impacts fertility.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1 in 12 people in the US has asthma, which totals around 25 million individuals.

Women are more likely than men to have asthma, which makes this current study particularly important.

Although the coexistence of infertility and asthma has been previously observed, this recent study investigates the link between asthma and delayed pregnancy in a large-scale analysis of twins.

The researchers, from Bispebjerg University Hospital in Denmark, looked at data from a cohort study of over 15,000 twins who were aged 12-41 years, and who completed a questionnaire about asthma and fertility.

Twins were used for the study so that direct comparisons could be made between sisters. The researchers note this also allowed them to use a sample representative of the whole population, from all social groups, without needing to measure genetic and lifestyle data for each individual.

Chief Obiano Willie set to be declared winner of Anambra Election

All Progressives Grand Alliance  governorship candidate Chief Willie Obiano is set to be declared winner of election held last Saturday.

Obiano was leading in 20 local government areas results received so far. But INEC has deferred declaration of all the results till when the results from Idemili North Local Government Area are collated.

A rerun was held in 65 wards in Idemili North on Sunday. Election was canceled in the 65 wards because election materials could not be delivered there on Saturday.

Three political parties and their candidates have already called for the cancellation of the election, alleging widespread irregularities.

The parties are the Peoples Democratic Party, the Labour Party and All Progressives Congress, which also boycotted the rerun declared in the 65 polling units in Idemili North Local Government Area on Sunday.

Tony Nwoye, Ifeanyi Ubah and Chris Ngige, of other political parties  at a joint press conference later in the day rejected the conduct of the election.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance however praised the conduct of the election and said INEC had fulfilled its promise to make the election the best it had ever conducted.

“We are satisfied with the way INEC has conducted this exercise so far. We are thoroughly satisfied with conduct of the security agencies,” the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, said.

Umeh accused those that questioned the credibility of the election of not being agents of the truth, who were only complaining because it had become clear to them that they would lose.

He said all the reports on the election were positive, saying there was no single report of violence as the police and army were at alert.

On the allegations that APGA rigged the process with INEC, Umeh said, “APGA will never rig election in this state. We believe in due process. We believe in the rule of law.”

Lamenting the way the election was conducted, Ngige said, “As we speak, I weep for Nigeria. I weep for this country called Nigeria. It is a country of great hope.

“But this generation of Nigerians does not want to bequeath anything good to the future generation. We want to keep them in a quagmire so that our children will ask, ‘why did they bring us here.?’

SHOCKING CONFESSION: ‘I’m HIV Positive & I’ve Hidden My HIV Status From My Husband For Four Years

I cannot tell you how I contracted HIV, but I had a brief fling with a pupil in my secondary school in 2009 when I was 17.

The brief s*xual relationship got me pregnant. When I checked my HIV status during my ante-natal registration, I was confirmed positive.”

Those were the words of Mrs. Grace Brume, 22-year-old HIV patient, expecting her second baby at the Amassoma General Hospital, Amassoma, Bayelsa State.

Grace is one of the HIV patients that are undergoing a special programme at the AGH christened, ‘Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission’.

The PMCT, an initiative of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS and other collaborating organisations, is meant to reduce the viral loads so that the transmission of mother-to-child is prevented.

Grace’s husband, Fyneface, has assumed the foster father of Grace’s first baby, PraiseGod, whose biological father, had since disappeared.

Our correspondent was on the entourage of NACA and the Bayelsa State Agency for the Control of AIDS which visited select general hospitals in the state, including AGH.

At AGH, our correspondent met Grace, who had hidden her HIV positive status from family members, including her husband, four years after.

PUNCH Metro had enquired from Grace how her husband, Fyneface, was treating her considering her challenge, she said, “I did not tell him that I am HIV positive. No one knows that I am HIV-positive except an aunt. Even my husband does not know. I have hidden my status from him since I tested positive.

“I would have told my husband, but the aunt said I should not. My aunt keeps encouraging me that those who have HIV will not die and that there are drugs they take to keep alive. Interestingly, my husband is negative.”

Grace said each time she and her husband wanted to have s*x, she usually convinced him (Fyneface) to use condoms.

“My husband used to kick against it each time I gave him condoms to use. I told him I was asthmatic and I did not want to get pregnant often. As a result, he agreed to be using condoms even though he did not like it.

“When we wanted to have the second baby, he did it without condoms. Still, my husband is negative.”

She said her resolve not to tell anybody was because of stigmatization which most HIV patients usually suffer.

Grace said her first child born to the “rascally schoolboy” was HIV-negative. She said Praise-God was in the Kindergarten class in a private school, stressing that when she was tested after 18 months of birth, there was no single trace of HIV in her (Praise-God).

She commended NACA, SACA and other organisations for helping to ensure that HIV patients have respite in the country.

Grace said, “My advice for pregnant women is for them to go to hospital to their HIV status. If they are positive, they should start taking their drugs to avoid the baby being infected.

“The ART drugs are working very well. I almost committed suicide five years ago when I tested positive to HIV. I was told that I was pregnant and had HIV. It was as if the entire world was crashing on my head. I went to tell my aunt about the development. She advised that I hid the result from everybody so that I would not have psychological problems.”

The ART Focal Person at AGH, Dr. Yomi Ibiye-Constance, said with the PMCT, it was possible for a HIV-positive mother to give birth to a HIV-negative child. He said the hospital had recorded 20 of such cases.

Yomi said, “We commence pregnant mother on HIV drugs as early as possible and this drug has been known to effectively reduce the viral loads and so the transmission of mother to child is taken care of with the drugs.

Head, Corporate Communications, NACA, Mr. Shola Idris, said the visits to the hospitals were part of the agency’s measures to check the success of PMCT/ART.

How Do I Correct My Dad?

really don't know how to start this but am so unhappy right now.

My Dad retired two years ago.
Before he retired, he never set up a business to fund his expensive life style when he retires.

We are all graduates and only the last born is yet to start work, so I expect him to be able to manage life from the little contracts he is getting, coupled with the fact that mum is still working (though she doesn't drop a naira from her income).

Late 2012, he became bankrupt and I had to send some money. Early this year, he called to request for more money to finance a project he was awarded by a State government.

I was like for such kind of project, he should get some funds from them for start up, but he said they wanted him to start then later they will pay up. I told my hubby and we gave him a good amount by God's grace, (he promise to return it but I know the money don enter voice mail).

A month later, he said he was not feeling too fine. I had to send him cash again for treatment.

To cut the long story short, he bought over 3 million naira car last month (he didn't tell me how he got the money cos he said the other project was a loss but I suspect he got his gratuity).

I wasn't happy when he told me he bought an over 3 million naira car because initially he told me he needed a small car that will not cost him more than 1million.

My problem now is, how can my Dad who bought over 3 million naira car last month coupled with his luxury in a 5 star hotel when he came visiting, call me today to request for money AGAIN that he is broke to the point he doesn't have money to fuel his car?
The new car he bought is packed in the garage because according to him, he has no money yet to pay for custom papers and plate number!!!!!!!

My pain is I don't know how to talk to him. My siblings are not too buoyant as I am so he doesn't disturb them for money.

I can't say no to him as well, he never said no to me when I was in school but I don't want him to just lavish his earnings on luxury and then call me to leverage it for him.
I account for every naira spent to my hubby, we don't live high and we have projects on going. I can't disturb my husband with my Dad's untamed taste and I must be able to support my hubby.

Have you ever been faced with this kind of challenge? How were you able to speak to your father/parent without being rude?

Do you know the color of your urine shows your health condition

Colors of the Rainbow

Urine is made up of water and waste materials from your body. There are many reasons your urine can change color, such as food, drugs, poison and general health. Pale yellow is considered the normal color of urine, so anything different may be a health problem or an indication that you ate something not so great for you. Check out this gallery and see what your urine color tells you about your health.

Clear

Clear urine is normal when you drink large amounts of water or other diuretics. It probably just means you are well hydrated.

Vibrant Yellow

Urine that is a rich yellow color may indicate that you haven't been drinking enough liquids. This deep yellow can also occur after excessive sweating. No need for alarm, just drink more fluids!

Dark Yellow

Dark yellow urine that is not vibrant is an indicator of a few things. Most commonly not drinking enough water. It may also indicate jaundice or liver problems. Pictured is a person with jaundice. The whites of the eyes turn yellow, too.

Orange

Carrots and carrot juice (or certain medications) could be to blame for orange urine. However, this color may indicate that there is an excess of Vitamin C in your system. Simply lighten your intake of vitamin C heavy foods.

Brown

Brown urine can be caused by certain foods, like fava beans or even laxatives, but it can also be a sign of a serious condition. Liver disease, melanoma cancer and hepatitis can all cause urine to have a brown tinge. So if your diet has gone unchanged recently, you may want to talk to a doctor about the color of your urine and the cause.

Green

A urinary tract infection (UTI) or certain drugs can cause your urine to look a bit green. If your slightly green urine is also accompanied by discomfort or burning while you urinate, you should see a doctor who can diagnose you with a UTI or other condition.

Blue

Urine with a slight blue tint is an indicator of high calcium levels. You can talk to your doctor about your diet or any supplements you are taking to fix this problem. Blue-ish urine can also be caused by certain bacterial infections, however, so let your doctor know as soon as you notice the color change.

Red

Red urine can be caused by many things. Large amounts of red food dye or naturally red foods can change the color in the toilet. Red beats are notorious for this very thing.

However, red urine can also indicate the presence of blood. Bloody urine can be a sign of bladder infections or serious internal injuries. If you haven't eaten red foods lately and suspect that your urine contains blood, you should see your doctor immediately.

Father killed by his son in osun

An 18 year old boy, Olalekan Adetoyinbo has been arrested by the Police in Ilesa, Osun State for allegedly killing his 56 year old father, Ayodele Adetoyinbo. The boy who is currently in detention allegedly killed his father on Wednesday, 13th November at Irojo area of Ilesa.
The suspect was arrested by police detectives attached to ‘B’ Division, Ijamo, Ilesa and he had confessed to the dastardly act.
In his confessional statement which was made available to newsmen, the suspect claimed that his father accused him of stealing six empty kegs when he returned from school on the fateful day, a situation which caused a serious argument between them.
He said the argument which ensued between them prompted him to hit his father with a concrete block on the head.
According to the suspect, his late father sustained severe injuries which eventually led to his death.
It was gathered that the security operatives were immediately contacted and the victim was taken to the state Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The corpse of the late Adetoyinbo according to the Police is at the Wesley Guild Hospital for autopsy.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for the state Police Command, Mrs. Folasade Odoro confirmed the incident, saying that the Police are already investigating the matter.
Odoro said the Commissioner of Police has directed that diligent investigation be conducted into the matter, adding that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

Common injuries during sex and their prevention

Lot of times, too much sex and sexual activity without lubrication could cause the sensitive skin of the man’s manhood to peel, causing a sore sensation. To fix this, rub your penis with lotion until it feels better. Sometimes, too much eagerness and without the right lubrication, the scrotum could be ruptured. And when your wife gets too passionate and grips your testicles roughly, she may get them bruised. Make sure that in whatever level of sexual activities, both of you can easily communicate and signal pains and pleasure without interrupting the flow of passion.

Beware of incorrect lubricants; if anything will make you more careful about what you use as lubricant, then it is this story. A newlywed groom took his bride to his grandma’s family house by the beach side to spend part of their honeymoon, and when the grandma left the house, they decided to have some fun. After searching for lubricant, they found grandma’s` nitroglycerin paste and decided it would do the job. How wrong they were. The paste caused their blood pressures to nose-dive, and the grandmother returned to find them unconscious and naked in her living room. It may sound funny but it is life threatening. Natural lubricants are still the best; beware of adulterated products.

An ophthalmologist friend told me recently that six of his patients presented cases of early decrease in vision in one eye with no apparent predisposing factor. But amazingly after obtaining a careful history, each patient revealed that he or she had been engaging in rigorous sexual activity. How can rigorous sexual activities lead to eye problem? I asked out of curiosity. During particularly intense orgasms, the extreme increase in blood flow can actually lead to ruptured blood vessels in the eyes, causing temporary discomfort to the eye. This can damage the eye, leading to transitorily reduced vision. So, if you go into sex wanting a blinding moment of pleasure, be careful what you wish for. When the orgasm becomes an eye popping orgasm, it may be a sign of blindness.

We all know it’s wise to take precautions, but sometimes, safe sex isn’t as safe as you might think. While performing oral sex, women have been known to accidentally swallow the condoms worn by their partners. Because of the material condoms are made of, they are certainly not designed for human consumption. So, swallowing one can lead to severe coughing and breathing difficulties. They might come in tasty flavours, but swallowing them is definitely not advised. So, position your head appropriately for blow job.

Wine glasses can be dangerous. When the alcohol is flowing, one thing can often lead to another, so it won’t be surprising to hear that beer and wine glasses are one of the items broken most often during sex, second only to bed frames. If you want to avoid painful cuts and sharp objects stuck in places you don’t want them to be, then be sure to clear away any broken glass before you accidentally roll through it in the throes of passion. Broken pieces can enter the body parts and it happens more often than you would think.

Most ordinary places for sex have been discovered to be the most dangerous spots, places such as: the sofa, the carpet, the chair, or shower. Wife, put a pillow on the floor if you’re going to give your husband a blowjob. There’s no reason to make your bare knees press against the floor. When the shower is wet, it is most slippery. One of my clients, a widower in his sixties, suffered a fracture when he fell down while masturbating in the shower in an attempt to rush to the door to lock it when he heard his son trying to get in. The most candid advice I gave him was to remarry. When you don’t properly position your head or shoulder while having sex on the chair, you may develop a chronic neck pain.

Leg cramp usually occurs when spouses practise new style.

Boko Haram 'holding kidnapped French priest': group source

Kano (Nigeria) (AFP) - Boko Haram is holding a French priest who was kidnapped in northern Cameroon, a source in the banned Nigerian Islamist group said on Friday, rejecting claims of a rift among the insurgents.

"I can confirm that the French priest is in the hands of mujahideen (fighters) from Jamaat Ahl al-Sunna Li Da’wat al-Jihad, who carried out the operation that was co-ordinated with Ansaru," he told AFP.

Boko Haram prefers to go by the Arabic name, which translates as "People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad" (holy war).

Ansaru is an offshoot of the militant group and has previously claimed kidnappings of foreign nationals.

The United States on Wednesday blacklisted both Boko Haram and Ansaru as terror groups, bowing to months of pressure to act after years of bloody violence in northeast and central Nigeria that has left thousands dead.

Hours after the declaration overnight Wednesday-Thursday, armed men abducted Roman Catholic priest Georges Vandenbeusch from his home near the town of Koza in northern Cameroon, about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the Nigerian border.

He was seized by about 15 people, who burst into his Nguetchewe parish base, according to the bishop of the Nanterre diocese near Paris, which has authority over the cleric.

The Boko Haram source, who did not want to be identified, declined also to say where the 42-year-old priest was being held, after the Cameroon authorities said they feared he had been taken across the border into Nigeria.

French priest Georges Vandenbeusch stands outside his church in Sceaux, south of Paris on July 21, 2 …

Government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary said the abduction bore all the hallmarks of the proscribed group.

The Boko Haram source said: "Mujahideen will tell the world more about the hostage at the appropriate time."

He added that claims of rifts within the ranks of the insurgent group, which has been linked to Al-Qaeda's operations in north and western Africa, were wide of the mark.

Boko Haram originally claimed to be fighting for the creation of an Islamic state in northern Nigeria and has made suicide bombing and gun attacks its trademark.

Ansaru has been linked to at least three hostage-takings of foreigners since 2011 and has mentioned France's intervention in Mali and European nations' "atrocities done to the religion of Allah" when claiming kidnappings.

"There is a deliberate attempt by the enemies of Islam to portray Jamaat Ahl al-Sunna Li Da’wat al-Jihad as sharply divided," the source said.

"What they don't know or ignore is that the two groups work closely together and most of the operations by the mujahideen are jointly carried out by the mujahideen from both sides."

AFP tried to verify the Boko Haram claim from other sources but there was no immediate information available from the authorities.

The kidnapping of Vandenbeusch, who had been working in the area for two years and had ignored French government warnings about the dangers of staying in the region, brings to eight the total number of French hostages held worldwide.

Four others are being held in Syria, another in Nigeria and two in the Sahel region on the southern fringes of the Sahara desert.

In February, a Frenchman employed by the gas group Suez in Yaounde was kidnapped with his wife, their four children and his brother while visiting a national park near the Nigerian border.

They were then taken across the notoriously porous frontier. The kidnapping was later claimed by Boko Haram, which has been waging a deadly insurgency in northern Nigeria since 2009.

The family was released in April but France denied paying a ransom or launching a military operation to secure their freedom.

South Africans now use home cleaning cream to bleach their skin.

According to MediaTakeOut, there's a new in trend in South Africa, where girls use "Handy Andy" - which is like cleaning cream with bleach (meant for cleaning homes) - on their skin. Over time the cleaning cream eats away at the skin, and gives an appearance of a "lighter" complexion. Is this really happening in SA?

Excess crude account drops to $3bn •$1bn withdrawn for Oct allocation augmentation

FOLLOWING the withdrawal of one billion dollars for October allocation augmentation , the Excess Crude Account has dropped to three billion dollars.
Minister of State for Finance, Dr Yerima Lawan Ngama, speaking after the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting, in Abuja, Thursday, said that October revenue was short of the budgetary allocation of N465.057 billion .

“In the month of October 2013, the total mineral revenue that accrued to the federation account is 443.052 billion. This is a little short of N465.057 billion that is in the budget for the month of October 2013 hence we have a negative variance of N22.005 billion” he said.

However, he said, the amount collected in October exceeded the amount collected in the previous month by N11.979 billion, adding that for non-oil mineral revenue, a total of N96.501bn was collected which is also below the budgeted N158.711 billion that is in the budget by N62.21 billion.

“We have the total actual collection of total revenue N539.553 billion which is less than the N623.768 billion that is in the budget by N84.215 billion.

“The total funds available for distribution have been adjusted with transfers to excess crude. And this month we transferred N80.651 billion to excess crude. Thus leaving N458.901 billion after cost of collection to Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) of N2.097 billion and cost of collection to Nigerian Customs Service of N3.085 billion.

“There is also a refund to NCS of N0.713 billion. So, after these deductions we had N453.006 billion left for distribution to the three tiers of government which was done as follows: Federal Government, N213.825 billion; all the states put together are going to share N108.455 billion. Then the local governments are going to share N83.614 billion. The oil-producing states will get their 13 per cent derivation which amounts to N47.112 billion,” the minister said, stressing that the three tiers of government shared N525.247 billion this month, “in addition, we have the normal SURE-P amount of N35.5 49 billion which will be shared amount the three tiers of government. Again, this month also, NNPC has made good its promise to pay N7.617 billion which will be shared to the states and local governments as the repayments due to the outstanding amount to from the NNPC,” he added
The Minister also noted that the sum of $1 billion was withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) to be distributed among the three tiers of government.

The amount, it was learnt, was approved by President Goodluck Jonathan to shore up the dwindling oil revenue.

EFCC Arrests Governor Sule Lamido’s Sons Over Alleged N10bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido's two sons over an alleged N10billion fraud.

PremiumTimes reports Aminu and Mustapha Lamido were arrested Thursday in Kano and flown to Abuja on Friday morning, and are currently being interrogated at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja by a crack team of detectives.

The arrest of the governor’s sons, insiders say, is in furtherance of the investigation that commenced
in December 2012 when Aminu Sule Lamido was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport en route Cairo, Egypt for failure to declare the $50,000 he had on him.

Although Aminu has since been prosecuted and convicted by a Federal High Court in Kano, investigation as to how he came by the money exposed a web of money laundering in which billions of naira from Jigawa State government accounts are funnelled into the accounts of companies run by the Jigawa state governor and his two sons, amount over N10billion.

Boko Haram bomber sentenced life for bombing Thisday, The Sun

Boko Haram member, Mustapha Umar, was today November 15th sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for his involvement in the April 26, 2012 bombing of SOJ Plaza in Kaduna where Thisday, The Sun and The Moment newspapers have their bureaus.

Umar was convicted on one count of terrorism for the bombing. The terrorist drove a white Honda Accord car with registration number AL 306 MKA with improvised explosives devices into the premises of SOJ plaza in April last year and detonated it, killing 3 people and injuring several others.
